If you are looking for a clean, mean and sober hang out late at night with a friend or a huge group of friends, then I think Momo Tea is the undiscovered oasis for a fun night out. I’m not a big fan of the drinking and clubbing culture so I’m always on the look-out for stuff to do out late that doesn’t involve that.
I discovered this place when I was still studying at the University
and looking for every excuse to stay out at night with friends. Momo Tea is like a ‘snack bar’ where you can order all kinds of food and exotic drinks, play games, watch TV or just hang out to chat with mates. It opens until late and closes at around 3-5am in the morning (varying between stores).
Momo Tea was a little hard to get used to in the beginning as everything was oriented towards an Asian clientele. However, it has come a long way since as I have seen an increase of non-Asian kids coming for some drinkies and enjoying the atmosphere. Excuse my blunt, maybe racist, maybe politically incorrect references to ethnic groups in this article. It is all without intention if any kind of offence is taken.

Every time my friends and I hang out we would
finish the day/night off with a visit to Momo Tea. There are many branches all
throughout Auckland so we would drive to the nearest one. It’s quite unfortunate that they don’t have a
website of their own but here are some Momo Tea branches in Auckland (that I
know of):

One thing I have to mention as a frequent Momo Tea visitor
is that they are all slightly different to each other. Some are cleaner, some
taste nicer and some are a lot more comfortable in ambiance than others. Some have
amazing views like the one in Birkenhead (which overlooks the nicely lit harbour
bridge) and some feel quite homely like the one in Mt. Albert. So
if you feel like you’ve been cheated your buck because of some horrible dish or
drink served to you, give it another chance and visit a different branch. Also
take note that if a drink is too sweet the first time, the next time you order
you can ask for half the sweetness.
If you haven’t ordered a Bubble Milk Tea/Pearl Milk Tea in your life, don’t be afraid of the name. It's not actually made of bubbles (this is just reference to the 'pearls' – the round black chewy yummy things). If it’s your first time, I recommend you try taro (a popular favourite), strawberry or rockmelon/melon . Then, order some of their amazing BBQ skewers to top it all off! They are the shizzles!
