History on Biting | Bboy History

Walking Dead Meme by Bboymemes
I expressed quite numerously my dislike for the bite sign and have established the fact that, yes, I think it’s quite overrated. I know the importance of maintaining originality and creativity in the scene, but I also understand that throwing the bite sign in the most unnecessary circumstance is no help to the evolution of this culture.

When I was in class learning about slavery in Cuba, we also touched on the history of Rumba. We watched a video of slaves dancing the Rumba and I saw familiar 'bboy moves' by which I guessed bboying had adapted from this dance form. The point is, no one in bboying is free from biting. In a sense, we all bit from others, as what Aby and Ness already explained before.

Here is another video which I hope will make you think twice about flaming someone for “biting” and throwing the bite sign in a battle.

“Ain’t nobody here the best bboy. That’s the bottom line. Ain’t nobody here the best. Ain’t nobody here f*cking made a damn move cuz people prolly doin’ this sh*t thousands of years ago… in f*cking Africa. So ain’t nobody here made up nothin’. What we’re doing is manifesting sh*t at a different time.” – Crazy Legs sitting on a basketball hoop. Lol. Only in Hip Hop.

This video is full of inspiring moves and with that said, don’t limit your inspiration to simply what’s already in the bboy scene. Broaden your horizon and perceive the idea that inspiration can be found external to the hip hop scene too.

Peace and Love x :)
