James Brown, a.k.a The Godfather of Soul, really knew how to
stir up the dance floor. Every time his music comes on, especially Superbad,
everyone goes crazy. And by crazy, I mean hyper possessed craaazy!
Superbad by James Brown
Just like It’s Just Begun by the Jimmy Castor Bunch,
Superbad is an established bboy anthem in the breaking scene and one that has
given me plenty of good memories. One of them in particular was during
practice.
It’s not alien to say that sometimes we bboys and bgirls feel
demotivated to practice or try something we’ve wanted to try for a long time,
maybe due to feeling not good enough, or being too weak, or it’s just not in us. I
had a friend who recognized those kinds of emotions and would play a really
easy upbeat song to perk everyone up. The day he played Superbad was most
memorable.
The lyrics spoke for us and it was so easy to sing and dance to at the same time. Not to mention how funky and enjoyable it was to scream like him. We played it twice and by the end of it we each had monstrous egos. Just, Superbad.

Peaces x :)
