With the hotel a mere 2 minute walk from the train station, Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo was conveniently the perfect base for the earlier part of our trip in Japan. It allowed us to orientate ourselves with the train system without having to worry about coming back too late and walking in the dark at night. I mean, with three gorgeous women *ahem* how dangerous would that be...
Location and Vicinity
Ikebukuro station is literally at your door step. With transport being so accessible we were more than encouraged to explore different areas of Tokyo without having to worry about the dangers of walking back to our hotel at night. Around the neighbourhood are also plenty of shops to explore albeit a little luxurious and pricey. There are a number of restaurants and convenient stores just a few paces from the hotel so if it’s not in your best interest to splurge on expensive hotel restaurant food, then feel free to walk about the neighbourhood and choose among the cheaper alternatives.

Staff
As with most hotels the serving staff on your particular visit may not always be consistent with those of other visitors. I have heard complaints about the staff in this hotel but during our visit we were quite fortunate. A lady welcomed us upon entry and escorted us to the reception desk. She explained we had to wait until check-in and offered to take our bags while we wandered about. When we returned there was another hour and a half to wait, but the lady allowed us to check-in early. She even upgraded us to a superior room with an astonishing view of the city (only after we told her it was our first time visiting Japan). The staff was quick to respond to our needs from the beginning to end.

Room
We booked for a standard twin room but were upgraded to a superior room. I have heard people complain about Japanese hotel rooms and how tight they can be but the superior room we had was pretty sufficient. Even though the hotel was situated in close proximity to a train station, the room was sound-proofed. We heard nothing at all except our very own noise. The room had free wi-fi.

Tip
When we got out of the South Exit at Ikebukuro Station, we wandered about and found a structure that looked like this:
