Lesson 1 | The Royal Family | Palace Studios

Let's take a break from Bboying for now and get into some Polyswagg. Yo, you have to watch this in HD. This isn't a recent video but it still kills - those skills. One of my faves.

For those who don't know, the Palace Studio was established by Parris Goebel who is (now) a world class Choreographer and also a member of the infamous ReQuest Crew. The Royal Family is a Mega Crew consisting of Sorority, Misfits, Inlaws, Bubblegum and of course, the ReQuest Crew.

Attitude. That's what this video has a lot of. The intensity of the video is emphasised by that claustrophobic lighting and having all those people in one place dancing. I love the way they actually put all those sets together and performed it in one run. The way the camera's moving all the time totally just made it feel I was watching all kinds of dances in different places, performed by different people. Which is kind of what it is.

There's that sense of being in that world and being involved. And when you feel like you're involved, it's an invitation to dance with them. I think what Parris has done is awesome, just the way these dancers are being built into such amazing performers is incredible. Despite all that attitude they bring into their dance, the Palace studios emphasise good conduct which is something to be respected!
