Bboys Shun Puma Advertising | Instagram

Here is another instagram drama. This actually happened a few weeks ago and I just haven't been bothered to post it up, but here it is.

Puma is an icon in the breaking world, and a lot of bboys and bgirls at least own a pair or had owned a pair of these shoes before, particularly the suedes and the clydes. That itself establishes Puma as one of the leading brands in our community. For a brand that has been with the community for as long as the culture itself, it definitely has failed to realise that you cannot fake breaking. As bboys and bgirls proudly drape the brand on themselves, Puma failed to reciprocate by representing the bboy community with this:

Spreading the word for the Red Bull BC One 2013 competition happening in South Korea, Roxrite, Kid David and Prada G featured in an episode of My Fox LA where they showcased their own individual moves as well as teach the female host the basic indian step.

Bboy Battles | Red Bull BC One | 2006 | São Paulo

Again, here is my summary for each battle at the 2006 Red Bull BC One Competition this time held at São Paulo, Brazil.

Judging these one on one matches are always difficult, as I've noticed. When battling in a crew, there will always be members that can go up against another crew's power, style, abstract etc. But in a match like Red Bull BC One, the judges will have to compromise judging between a power bboy against a style bboy. It’s difficult business especially when both are so good at what they do.

Value Your Losses | Roxrite

I found this video by accident and as of this moment, only less than a hundred people have seen it! I really think more people should watch it. Last year when the Red Bull BC One Asia Qualifier happened here Auckland, I was kicking myself for being out of the country that very same week! Why? Let me get a quote from Swerve.

The Public Struggle | Bboy Thesis

I don’t like to judge bboys – or people for that matter – but when I first heard of Thesis and saw footage of him, I always felt this vibe that he was arrogant. I cannot exactly remember what the heck I was watching but it all came down to superficial feelings of first impressions. And we all know these feelings may or may not be deceiving. Still, there was no denying that this bboy is a beast on the floor – it didn’t matter what his personality was, I had to admire his talent.

Later I stumbled on a copy-paste someone had taken from his tumblr. It was an expression of his feelings as someone under the scrutiny of public expectations and his struggle to stay true to the hip hop culture. I realised then that he actually had A LOT of soul. It's not what he said - it's how he said it.

Roxrite | Bboying is to dance

I consider Roxrite a modern bboy legend. After making this blog and reflecting on a lot of the things I've learned in the past, I realized I have nothing specific considering Roxrite, but I do know that out of all the bboys, I seem to take in the stuff he says a lot more. It's one of those moments, you know, you're listening and registering what's being said, but completely oblivious that the stuff said turns into those things you follow and say to others too from time to time.

So I just had to dig up one of his workshop videos. To me, the concept of dance is the most important. When you read some of my blogs, you'll get the gist that I tend to pick things apart and especially complain when I don't feel the "dance" aspect of bboying. Heh. Bboy Spot | My Favourite Video

This is probably one of my favourite videos on YouTube. There's nothing amazing or special about it, it's a straight up informative video about the Bboy Spot's new home. But the fact they filmed their headquarters tour during the Outbreak weekend really tugged on my jealousy strings. I pretty much consider some of these bboys as celebrities. I don't scour YouTube for videos to watch, but I do watch some of the ones people recommend to me - and videos which feature some of the bboys in this video always stood out; they never cease to amaze me.

Introducing Hip Hop through Bboying

Back in ’06 I saw a video of a group of boys dancing hip hop. I don’t use such derogatory words now, but at that time I said they all looked really hot. One of my friends took a closer look at the video and said, “You can’t even see their faces.” That’s probably when I fell in love with dancing.
