Bboys Shun Puma Advertising | Instagram

Here is another instagram drama. This actually happened a few weeks ago and I just haven't been bothered to post it up, but here it is.

Puma is an icon in the breaking world, and a lot of bboys and bgirls at least own a pair or had owned a pair of these shoes before, particularly the suedes and the clydes. That itself establishes Puma as one of the leading brands in our community. For a brand that has been with the community for as long as the culture itself, it definitely has failed to realise that you cannot fake breaking. As bboys and bgirls proudly drape the brand on themselves, Puma failed to reciprocate by representing the bboy community with this:

Apparently these shoes move in all the right ways only sometimes. Is that truly how Puma sees the breaking community? They should have just resorted to taking a picture of the shoes on its own.

If they wanted to bring in the idea that Puma is part of the bboy culture then they should have represented that audience the right way. You don't need to be Einstein to figure you'd need actual bboys to do that.

There are so many amazing bboys and bgirls out there, and it doesn't take a lot to persuade them either. If Korea did well by turning to the Drifterz Crew during their promotional campaign of the Future Suedes, why couldn't everywhere else do the same?

Here is what people had to say.

At least bboys aren't the kind to just sit around, take it and do nothing about it. They can be lazy about everything else, but when it comes to their culture's disgrace, suddenly everybody gets busy.

The Bboy Spot also got busy negotiating with Puma to put up a real bboy to represent the shoes. Puma eventually accepted their offer, and the Bboy Spot forwarded them a picture of one of the realest and most legit bboys out there, Roxrite. For anyone curious, he's wearing a black classic suedes from the eco pack.

With the little problem solved, Roxrite's fellow member of the Squadron, Nasty Ray, decided to do a little parody. How can you not like this guy.

Still makes me laugh.

Peaces.
