Ben Tafau on Bboying in South Korea | Asia NZ Foundation

Ben Tafau | Picture credit Ben Tafau
In 2010, one of our local bboys, Ben Tafau, visited South Korea on behalf of the Asian New Zealand Foundation and underwent what must have been the meanest research project that has ever existed - researching the South Korean bboy culture. I would take a job like that any day. Jealous.

Complete Rivers | Bboy | South Korea

Naughtyone posted this up. It's the complete Rivers Crew from back in the day. Just thought I'd do the same and share it all around for everyone to enjoy. How nostalgic is this?

How Good is Bboy Born? | Thought Bubble

I'm not sure whether the question was sincere or aimed at "dick-riders" but I sincerely value Born as an inspirational bboy, so I'll answer this properly; each to their own, aightz?!

Born is definitely one of my favourite bboys out there but I never really considered how good he is until someone raised the question recently. All bboys and bgirls have varied preferences of course, and according to their taste and style it's what's bound to define who they consider as a "good" bboy or bgirl. If we get into the semantics of the question, that's how I would define "good".

Army Service Visit | Physicx | Rivers Crew | Born Update

It's not the first time I've been lied to by the internet. I was told Physicx served the army when he was much younger but I’m learning now that he only just got done serving in it. Heh. I’m glad the army business is over though.

While still in the army, bboy Rookie from Drifterz Crew caught up with him to see what’s up. We learn that unlike some unfortunate bboys in Korea, Physicx served the army through public service. This meant he still had the opportunity to go home at night and practice breaking if he wanted to. I heard his health wasn’t in good shape during 2010 so I guess it did something good for him eventually.

Military Service in the South Korean Army | Bboys

Imagine seeing a phenomenal bboy out-performing and out-classing everyone on the international stage. With that kind of skill, you'd want to see more of them, see what other moves they can execute, see them grow and witness their trophy cabinet fill up; to be inspired and to be taught by them.

Then out of the blue, they disappear, only to return two years later to find they have either retired from competitions or have lost a lot of their impressive abilities. It's quite a sinking feeling not being able to see them execute those same moves again or be at the top of their game like before. But this is the reality for most South Korean bboys.

Born vs Casper | Disrespectful or True breakin'? | History

Born against Casper. One of the most talked bboy battles online. This battle was really dope not only because two of the dopest bboys were battling it out on the floor, but the atmosphere of their battle - that cypher - just, whoah! Off. The. Chain. So many things were going on I don't even know where to begin to write this.

Don't judge the Judge | Bboy Born

This video is so gratifying to watch. Not only because of the context in which the battle began but also the hype and the crowd that fed the whole atmosphere. I know the "atmosphere" was kind of tense, and a bit biased, but it was a true bboy battle in the sense that beef was settled where it belonged - the floor.

So what is it all about? After the battle between Vagabonds and Flow Mo during Hip Opsession 5 in which Flow Mo took the win, Vagabonds felt they were judged unfairly. Judging the event was Nacera, Cros 1 and Born. Youssef of Vagabonds decided to call the judges out and Born stepped up to represent them. A different story says that Youssef specifically called Born out. The result? See for yourself...

Why they hatin'? | Jay Park | Art Of Movement

That's a question I often wondered. Why are they, other bboys, hating on Jay Park? "Hate" may not be the right word but the crux of the question lies in the fact that Jay Park always seem to attract ridicule from other bboys. So where did it all begin?

Bboy Spot | My Favourite Video

This is probably one of my favourite videos on YouTube. There's nothing amazing or special about it, it's a straight up informative video about the Bboy Spot's new home. But the fact they filmed their headquarters tour during the Outbreak weekend really tugged on my jealousy strings. I pretty much consider some of these bboys as celebrities. I don't scour YouTube for videos to watch, but I do watch some of the ones people recommend to me - and videos which feature some of the bboys in this video always stood out; they never cease to amaze me.
