Taeyang Throwback "Where U At" | Shaun Evaristo & Lyle Beniga

I know it’s old but I reckon this video needs mentioning in my blog. It’s a crazy thought but once in a while big companies like YG Entertainment actually recruit choreographers through YouTube. Back in the day their scouting led them to dancers from Movement Lifestyle, most notably Shaun Evaristo and Lyle Beniga, who eventually choreographed Taeyang’s Wedding Dress and Where U At.

Harry Shum Jr | The Last | Elliot's Shoes

Harry Shum Jr is probably one of the most versatile dancers I know. When I learned the Behind the Scenes videos for LXD had become available for each episode, I decided to re-watch the whole thing. These definitely got me hooked on Harry the Choreographer and Co-Director. The range of his style is just incredible and I was most impressed to learn some choreography had unexpectedly been his.

New Fad | Rachi Dance

I was listening to the radio and they mentioned something going viral that may just be the next Gangnam Style or Harlem Shake. Ladies and Gentlemen, introducing the Rachi Dance by Ayo Potter. What do you think? Watch it in HD, seriously.

Battle of the Year 3D | Featuring Chris Brown and Real Bboys

Battle of the Year 3D, a movie-drama spinoff of the documentary Planet B-boy (from the same director, Benson Lee), is one of the most anticipated films this year, at least in the bboy community. It's got quite a cliché storyline but most of us will probably still watch it because it actually has a cast of some pretty commendable bboys.

Bboys in the Under Amour Spine Venom Challenge

Coming up on my feeds recently is a competition by Under Armour which sets out to endorse their new product, the Spine Venom. From a marketing point of view, I think this endeavour is the best strategy. Spending money on prizes instead of expensive commercials – and with the innovation of social media – is the best way to get people involved as well as spreading the word.

I know this blog is still very new and no one really likes to contribute anything, but I have quite a humble amount of viewers which I think could support this competition. This challenge is through invitation only and since some of our bboys are in the competition we need to support them! :)

The Harlem Shake Revisited

In February I posted an entry which questioned the Harlem Shake. I explained that the Harlem Shake we know of today is completely different from the Harlem Shake that existed ten years ago. A video was also included depicting local Harlem residents not impressed by what the world had transformed their 'Harlem Shake' into.

Recently, I stumbled across this other video which also tries to get the message across that all this hype is burying what the true Harlem Shake is. Check it out. Harlem residents show us how it's done.

Peaces.

Alyson Stoner | Advice for Dancers | Step-Up 3

I had to bring this old clip into this blog because her advice is just too good. For those who don't know Alyson Stoner, she is an actress, singer and dancer, and many know her for her roles in Step Up. For me, I first noticed her as that little girl dancing in Missy Elliot's music videos.

The advice she gives, I feel, goes out to just about any kind of dancer out there.

Amazing Asian Concept | Quick Crew

I was checking Facebook this morning and one of the updates caught my attention so... I must blog about it! I have heard of the Norwegian crew, Quick Crew, before but never really seen any of their sets. Them being European and all, I was sceptical about this ‘Asian Concept’. I thought, in what mocking stereotype do Europeans have of Asians this time?

Nevertheless, I still clicked and watched… Then I was amazed.

Lesson 1 | The Royal Family | Palace Studios

Let's take a break from Bboying for now and get into some Polyswagg. Yo, you have to watch this in HD. This isn't a recent video but it still kills - those skills. One of my faves.

For those who don't know, the Palace Studio was established by Parris Goebel who is (now) a world class Choreographer and also a member of the infamous ReQuest Crew. The Royal Family is a Mega Crew consisting of Sorority, Misfits, Inlaws, Bubblegum and of course, the ReQuest Crew.

Sure Thing | I Am The Best | Ellen Kim

This post is an Ellen Kim special! Heh. Not really. It just so happen that she appears on both these videos. She's an amazing choreographer and being a bgirl first before a hip hop dancer (?), I wouldn't know much about her. What I do know is that I respect her as a dancer.

This first video is a throwback! When I watched it again today, I suddenly had this nostalgic feeling. Music is definitely a strong reviver of past and forgotten memories. It reminded me of that summer I had this song playing on my iPod over and over again, and making my way to our dance studio sucking on some popsicle; then jamming with friends until late, then playing this song again on the way home, lol. Good times. Don't know where some of those friends had gone.
