Roxrite | Bboying is to dance

I consider Roxrite a modern bboy legend. After making this blog and reflecting on a lot of the things I've learned in the past, I realized I have nothing specific considering Roxrite, but I do know that out of all the bboys, I seem to take in the stuff he says a lot more. It's one of those moments, you know, you're listening and registering what's being said, but completely oblivious that the stuff said turns into those things you follow and say to others too from time to time.

So I just had to dig up one of his workshop videos. To me, the concept of dance is the most important. When you read some of my blogs, you'll get the gist that I tend to pick things apart and especially complain when I don't feel the "dance" aspect of bboying. Heh. Here's the vid (he says 'like' like a lot, oops now you're going to notice it too, my bad):

Main points of the video:
- Don't think about the steps you'd do. Break it down. Most bboys break in a circle but you should try make patterns within the circle too, i.e. cut the circle in half, squares, triangles etc.
- Foundations are not always simple steps like the 2, 3 or 6 steps, it's also about understanding how your body moves.
- Pain is progress!
- Find a way to recover well from crashes. Well, that seems to be the point of Goof and KBE.

Goof and KBE at the end - totally crack pots. Their theory about Roxrite not crashing is almost believable.

This next vid tells us more about Roxrite's style which is more informative than the previous video in terms of the concepts of dancing.

Main points of the video:
- Footwork is what sets bboying apart from all the other dances it has adopted. "Bboy style" is the traditional style.
- Being original does not necessarily mean you need to find a completely different way of doing an original step. Just one move or difference can make the move yours.
- We all have different bodies so we should make moves that suit ourselves. Just like fingerprints, we are all different.
- Create your own transitions, don't do what everyone else is doing.
- Be technical - don't always go for the big moves. Do a move, connect to the music, and feel good about it.

Keepin' all that in mind :)

At the end of the vid, we got Prez and VP of the Mighty Zulu Kings, Ness and Tyquan respectively, speaking out about Roxrite. Yeah, he does rocks right. Lol, Ness: "Then I saw him break, and it was over."
