The Bright Future | King of the Kidz, Terra and Eddie

Young breakers are headliners these days and all I’ve got to say is that it’s pushing the bigger kids to work even harder. One look at them reppin’ definitely got me impressed and motivated. The latest in the scene is the King of the Kidz Bboy Battle which featured Justen (Break Kidz/Hustle Kidz), Lil Demon (Skill Methodz/Panic Zone), Leelou (Break Kidz/The Ruggeds), Kid Karam (The Warriors), Kid Colombia (Break Kidz/Hustle Kidz/Styles Confidential) and Sunni (Soul Mavericks).

JuBa Films had kindly provided a summary of the whole event and a window into what had surely been a sensational exhibition of young talent. Check it:

When I was watching this video I was overcome by a sense of pride. Lately I’ve been reading a few articles that said the true essence of bboying was dying, that it was evolving towards a diverging direction and creating something completely different than what it had originally meant to become. In a sense that’s true. We see some bboys repping something that’s totally unknown to the culture and people get into debates about what makes a true bboy.

Then we have these kids, in all their innocence, just dancing – doing what they know how to do. They live and they dance. Of course they still have a long way to go in terms of becoming creative and original but there’s no doubt about the potential being there! For all the talent they carry, we need to thank those who have nurtured them in truth. In this way, bboying is not dying.

These kids live in an era where a few remaining OGs are still instilling the knowledge they possess to the next generations; and these kids are rubbing shoulders with bboys who still keep traditional bboy philosophies to heart. Let Each One Teach One, and the cycle continue. Only then will the true meaning of bboying never die :) In the future, these kids will have all the answers!

We’ve met Terra in this blog already, but not her sister, Eddie. Here is a video and interview of both reppin’. Lol at Hurricane Ray (bboy/interviewer) trying not to laugh.

What immense dedication these girls have at such an age; where they prefer to practice and only hang with their friends “sometimes”. I find it cute that dancing is all they know. When asked what they like to do apart from dancing, they say boxing and gymnastics – then slip in training in there too. Heh.

Sometimes looking at breaking from a child’s perspective is quite refreshing. There is no such thing as reputation – just gifts and presents like ‘medals’, and still having dreams for the future rather than weighing breaking against everything else. Their innocence is the ultimate example of having both breaking and life co-existing in one body.

I hope to continue seeing these kids in the future and shaping the culture towards the better truth.

Love and Peace x :)
