Sweet Summer Treat | Things to do in Auckland #2

Looking at this tall, attractive sweet thang is making me wish it was summer all over again! :( Too bad I didn’t (couldn’t be bothered to) write this entry while the weather was still brilliantly hot but take comfort in just knowing that this little strawberry haven is seasonally available every summer.

This summer I found myself coming here after every visit to Muriwai Beach as it is located just off State Highway 16 at 45 Fred Taylor Drive, Massey North. The place is called Sweet Red and it is definitely a sweet paradise for strawberry lovers. Although the ice cream may be their most popular product, it goes without saying they also sell punnets of delicious strawberries, blue berries, cherries, as well as strawberry picking. They also sell smoothies and juice.

What makes their ice cream so delicious is the fact it is made from freshly harvested strawberries.

Word of advice: when the store is completely packed and busy, don’t make the mistake of queuing in front of the ice cream counter. There are two separate counters – one where you pay and the other where you pick up your order. Because the ice cream is made on the spot, the queue can sometimes be a torturous wait, from 15-20 minutes long. So to avoid doubling that time, first you must go to the cashier counter where they will take your order. You will be required to pay here too. You will then receive a receipt with your order listed and you take this to the other counter where you will pick up your ice cream.

So if you ever find yourself bored next summer and wondering what to do with your mates, take a trip to this packhouse and enjoy some strawberry goodness. Sorry I’ve been lazy but at least you can make sure to put this on your to-do list for next summer!
